BTW, I recommend using the new 2nd generation backup script.  It has
much added functionality--such as the option of backing up binary or
text backups, multiple types of compression mechanisms and emailing
the admin if a backup failed.  It is available at:

    ftp://ftp.cold.org/cold/contrib/scripts/backup2.gz
